Every audience member experiences a different version of the performance.

The performance consists of 5 questions that you will answer privately. For each question, you can choose among 7 options: observe in silence or listen to one of the six audio tracks. This means there are over 16,000 possible paths to experience the show.

You do not need to explain or justify your choices. They are entirely private. The meaning is what you make of it.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If something goes wrong with the technology or the show, the performance becomes a space for shared reflection on our dependence of technology and our openness to uncertainty.

AUDIO EXPERIENCE

An assemblage of rap, hip-hop, gospel, jazz, soca, spoken word, poetry, and archival recordings placed in conversation with one another to create new meanings and emotional resonances.

Sources include artists and thinkers such as Maya Angelou, Saul Williams, KRS-One, Little Simz, Spice, Whitney Houston, Killer Mike, Otis Redding, Mr. Soundtrackz and many others.

The result is a performance where no two audience members encounter exactly the same work. The audio becomes a mechanism for opacity: a way of preserving difference, refusing total legibility, and creating space for multiple truths to exist simultaneously.

Why?

What remains when transparency and legibility is no longer the goal?

As a child, Amanda became fascinated by the idea that two people could look at the same artwork and never have the same experience. Dimensions of Opacity is an attempt to celebrate that mystery rather than solve it.

This work is inspired by Édouard Glissant's concept of our collective and individual right to opacity and the idea that people do not need to be fully understood in order to be respected, connected, or valued.

Rather than pursuing a single shared narrative, Dimensions of Opacity embraces ambiguity, difference, and the beauty of private experience.

In exploring these themes, Amanda wanted to create a performance where audience agency was centred but did not rely on popular votes or chance based decision making. She was curious how she could embed individual decisions into a shared experience.

Who is the creator?

Amanda Tkaczyk is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and technologist based in Cambridge, Ontario.

Her work explores participation, technology, identity, connection, ambiguity, and collective meaning-making.

Since launching her practice in Summer 2024, her film, performance, and visual art has presented at venues inckuding: Third Shift Contemporary Arts Festival (Saint John, NB), Wheat City Nuit Blanche (Brandon, MB), and Art Gallery of Burlington. Her first solo exhibition "Would You Like To Take A Seat?" opens August 2026 at Cambridge Art Galleries.

Rooted in care, access, and challenging traditional notions of casting, the performers were selected through a random lottery process.

Ébby

Ébby is a Cameroonian multidisciplinary artist who specializes in weaving together moments that connect to both the body and soul. Through genres such as Afrobeats, Amapiano and heel dancing, they have dedicated their craft towards storytelling in a way that highlights the influence that their heritage has on their art.

In 2018, Ébby had the opportunity to lead their own dance team called the Afro-Caribbean dance team, where they choreographed, rehearsed, and showcased the team’s talent on many stages—competing with other dance teams. By 2024, Ébby joined a heel dance class where they co-choreographed in heels, with the goal of being creative and building community.

Now, Ébby is making their comeback on stage. With a great love for dance and an insistance on being seen, Ébby is determined to leave a lasting impact on the world.

Kobena

Kobena Ampofo (we / they) is a queer Akan anti-disciplinary artist developing a curiosity-led research practice around witchcraft, Akan mediumship, and the spirit realm.

Kobena was born on a dark Tuesday morning in Kumasi, Ghana. They grew up there and have since also lived in Accra, South Bend, Chicago, Brampton, and now Toronto. Our practice experiments with form and structure, from sculpture to digital collage to theatre. As we conjure new realities into being, and finding ways to communicate beyond (human) language, we hope our experiments and experiences support our goal to be come a more dynamic storyteller. We also aim to be a communal resource for the stories we are learning from elders and other ancestors. A selection of our work can be viewed on Instagram @nipazeen.

HUG

HUG is a Canadian Vocalist | Songwriter | Composer | Author | Artisan | Speaker | Instrumentalist | and Playwright (Ode to Joyce). A passionate Encourager, she aims to be the moon on someone’s dark night—reaching those feeling broken and in need of light.

She expresses herself through service, dreaming boldly while helping others walk more powerfully in their being. Her commercial radio show reached over 25 million and was named top in its demographic. She has Hollywood acting credits and has worked across 4 continents, speaking 5 languages.

Dynamic, dignified, and deeply observant, HUG is a trusted voice in human resilience, philosophy, and psychology. As a keynote speaker and author of 5 books—including Songs Life Taught Me—she inspires through word, music, and wisdom.

In her spare time, she leads Giving Sundays—a heart-led initiative offering free balloon art, face painting, and magic to children. What began for underserved youth is now a beloved community tradition bringing joy to families of all kinds.

Ry

Ry is a multidisciplinary creative interested in working through writing, music, visual art, performance, and code. His work draws on acting, avant-garde expression, and digital experimentation to explore perception, atmosphere, and emotional response.

How does the technology work?

Privacy - We do not collect or store any of your data.

Audience App - Python Flask app used for online (internet) and offline (local network). The online option is hosted on Render.com and the offline option is served via a Raspberry Pi.

Audio Experience - The audio clips were collected and assembled into collage via FL Studio and normalized with MP3Gain.
